Main contractor Kier appointed Westcotes Flooring to install around 9,000sq m of floorcoverings throughout the new school, including safety vinyl, carpet tiles, entrance matting, and specialist sprung timber sports flooring. Some areas of the subfloor were wet, but an initial problem was that the highly polished and dense surface subfloor was unsuitable to receive damp proof membrane – mechanical preparation was needed before a DPM could be successfully applied.
