Why Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD is a “go-to” for tilers

Tiling can offer up some interesting surprises at times, says Schlüter-Systems, and you can never truly appreciate the challenges of a project until you step into that space, trowel in hand. With the company’s KERDI-BOARD in your toolkit, it says, you’re covered for all eventualities. The multi-functional installation board was launched back in 2008, and here are just a few reasons why the company says it’s still as popular today.

When a product can shave time off without compromising on the quality of a project, it is usually worth keeping around. In the case of KERDI-BOARD, the combination of a foam core with a fleece bonded surface reportedly means it is already fully waterproof without the need for additional finishing processes. Foregoing this step entirely can save valuable time – this, paired with it being easy to cut, makes it an efficient choice.

While the backerboard is light enough to transport easily, the company says it also has considerable strength. Though you may not guess from looking at the lightweight components, the product can reportedly support up to 60kg/sqm.

The company offers the product in seven thickness options, expanding the product’s versatility. As well as using KERDI-BOARD as an overlay onto an existing substrate, features such as shelves and seating can be created and with the boards at the thicker end of the range used as construction panels, allowing you to think outside the box.

KERDI-BOARD reportedly accepts screw fixings with washers without breaking, resulting in less wastage than with brittle cement-faced boards. In fact, the whole ensemble is cement-free, eliminating dust and allowing tilers to maintain a healthier working environment as well as increase productivity.

Alongside the standard product, there are further variations to suit any project. For a curved feature, the company offers Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD-V, grooved specifically for this purpose. KERDI-BOARD-N, on the other hand, is a range of sealed prefabricated niches to add integrated shelving to a bathroom project

“The hero of tiling preparation, KERDI-BOARD is on hand to aid in the creation of a reliable, CE marked waterproof system,” the company concludes.
