Part of Mapei’s complete tiling system, Mapeguard Board is a lightweight, multi-purpose waterproof panel designed for use in bathrooms, kitchens and wellness environments. Featuring a double-sided waterproof membrane, it’s said to provide a fast-track solution with extensive design flexibility, from creating a tile-ready substrate, to structural features or fabricated furnishings.
Available in a variety of thicknesses, Mapeguard Board comprises an inner layer of high-density extruded polystyrene with a multi-layered and completely waterproof membrane on each side. The panel is characterised by high mechanical strength, thermal insulating properties and high resistance to water contact, says the manufacturer, making it suitable for all damp environments. It can also be used as an alternative to cementitious render, to level uneven walls and existing tiled surfaces, and can be bonded directly to substrates.
Being easy to cut, the boards can be shaped to create bathroom countertops, bath surrounds, benches and seats. The panel’s surface composition is also said to promote ease of adhesion of ceramic, mosaic and natural stone finishes, and application of skim coats. Unlike traditional building materials, the boards reportedly do not generate dust, promoting a safe and clean application environment.
