UltraTile adhesives support major refurbishment at ASDA House

A MAJOR tiling project at the operational heart of ASDA’s corporate headquarters in Leeds has been successfully completed, showcasing precision workmanship, careful planning, and high-performance tiling materials.

Specialist contractor The Great Northern Tiling Company, proud members of The Tile Association, delivered the large-scale refurbishment at the busy headquarters of retail giant ASDA, says UltraTile.

Completed over a 121-day programme, the project involved the full strip-out of existing tiles, followed by reboarding, screeding and the installation of new commercial-grade tiling across a total area of approximately 1,800sqm. The works covered 26 male and female toilet blocks, six shower areas, four accessible toilets, and multiple kitchen areas, helping to modernise and refresh the facilities throughout the building says the company.

Working in a continuously occupied building with strict security controls, the team carried out most of the installation outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Careful planning and phased delivery ensured the refurbishment was completed safely, on schedule, and to a consistently high standard, all while maintaining uninterrupted day-to-day operations within the building.

For the installation, The Great Northern Tiling Company selected UltraTile ProFlex SP in grey for the floors and ProFlex SPES in white for the wall installations, both trusted for their performance in demanding environments, says UltraTile.

The company adds: ‘UltraTile ProFlex SP rapid set flexible tile adhesive and ProFlex SPES standard set flexible tile adhesive are both S1 classified under EN 12004, offering high deformation capabilities that allow them to handle movement with ease. This makes ProFlex SP and ProFlex SPES an ideal choice for challenging substrates like timber floors and underfloor heating systems, where flexibility is key to long-lasting results.’

‘The project involved installing 600 x 600mm porcelain tiles across floors and walls, alongside 300 x 100mm ceramic tiles in the kitchen areas. Substrates included cement board on walls and screeded concrete on floors, providing a robust base for the high-specification finishes.’

The Great Northern Tiling Company team highlighted the benefits of UltraTile materials during installation. ‘Our guys loved the ‘grab’ on the SPES when fitting the 600 x 600 wall tiles and said the extended open times worked really well in warm conditions’, said Darren Nockall, director at The Great Northern Tiling Company.

Adds UltraTile: ‘The project demonstrates how high-performance tiling systems, combined with expert installation, can deliver outstanding results even in complex environments such as high-occupancy corporate headquarters with strict operational and security constraints.’
