SkillBuild has announced the winners of its National Finals 2022, which took place at Edinburgh College on 15-17 November.
SkillBuild, often dubbed the “Skills Olympics”, is delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in partnership with WorldSkills UK, and offers a chance for trainees to compete to be crowned winner in their trade.
The wall and floor tiling competition is sponsored by ARDEX, BAL, Nicholls & Clarke, Schlüter-Systems and TTA.
The winners of the Wall and Floor Tiling Category were:
Gold – Conor Nugent from Southern Regional College
Silver – Morgan Nutt from North West Regional College
Bronze – Aaron Brady from Leeds College of Building
TTA training committee Chair, David Rowley, was a judge. He said: “This was a really great event, which was also attended by about 1,000 visitors from local schools, so it highlighted the excellent training and skills opportunities which are available to young people in the construction sector. I would particularly like to take the opportunity to congratulate all three winners in the wall and floor tiling category. They did really well and they will no doubt be a great asset to our industry going forward.”
The Edinburgh National Finals followed the regional qualifiers, which were held at various colleges across the UK earlier this year.
SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices, and as competitors progress through each stage, they are tested on their technical abilities, time management, character and commitment. The competition is viewed by many as an opportunity to develop confidence, self-esteem, and life skills, along with the potential for the highest-scoring eligible competitors to join Squad UK and compete internationally.
