Tile Rite, a brand of QEP, has introduced its Ultra Light Tile Backer Board, designed to deliver a reliable, strong and efficient waterproof substrate for professional tile installation.
Lightweight, easy to cut and 100% waterproof, Tile Rite’s Ultra Light Tile Backer Board is a way to provide a protective substrate for floor and wall tiling installations. Protecting the surface beneath from water ingress and heat-resistant, Ultra Light Tile Backer Board is suitable for use when tiling around baths and basins, as well as in showers and wetrooms.
With a waterproof membrane laminated on both faces, Ultra Light Tile Backer Boards can be mounted directly to bare plaster, masonry and dense wooden boards, such as OSB (6-10-12mm thickness). Depending on the surface, the boards can be screwed or glued in place and thicker versions (10mm-12mm) are suitable for use with wooden or steel framework. Using Tile Rite Flexible Waterproof Seam Tape and sleeves on joints and pipe openings reportedly ensures a completely watertight finish ready for tiling.
Each board measures 1200x600mm and weigh from just 1.2kg/sqm (6mm). The lightweight construction making them easy to handle and place in position, says Tile Rite, saving a significant amount of time over traditional cement boards and cutting down on physical strain. Installers can carry full packs rather than just a few boards to site, while a helpful grid pattern allows easy measurement and fast and dust-free cutting. In fact, the company continues, you can cut Tile Rite Ultra Light Backer Board using just a utility knife.
