Palace Chemicals’ latest resin-based grout combines all the advantages of a resin grout with the ease of use which is expected from today’s products, the company says.
COLOUR-GUARD PRO is a significant launch from Palace Chemicals, which is described as a welcome enhancement to the company’s range, while also ticking another box in its drive for more sustainable products. Resin grouts have always been known for their advantages, Palace explains, the main one being that they are completely impervious, so they do not absorb spills and are resistant to all contaminants of any kind.
This has always made them suitable for kitchens and bathrooms and a necessity for commercial food preparation areas. They are also entirely resistant to mould and mildew growth and prevent moisture penetration behind the tiles, thereby enhancing the durability of the tiled installation as a whole. Being hard wearing and more resistant to cracking, they are also suitable for high-traffic areas, such as hallways, shops and public buildings.
Resin grouts tend to retain their colour longer and also they don’t need sealing, as they are themselves waterproof. Finally in most conditions they will provide a stronger bond than cementitious grouts, providing optimal mechanical strength for any tiling installation.
They have however had significant disadvantages associated to them in the past – which have tended to limit their appeal, particular for tilers. The main one has been that they were difficult to work with, being harder both to apply and also to clean off after installation. As the grout is more tacky than a cementitious grout and harder to apply, it is essential to ensure that all parts of the grout are mixed correctly.
They have also tended to be significantly more expensive both to buy and also to install, due to the heightened level of skill and time that is required for their use.
COLOUR-GUARD PRO from Palace Chemicals tackles many of these issues head on, making resin-based grouts both effective and easier to work with. The product is described by the company as a professional-grade, high performance, three-part grout system formulated to provide superior colour consistency, durability and stain resistance for ceramic, porcelain, glass and natural stone installations. When the three components are combined, the company says, they form a hygienic, dense and impervious grout with excellent chemical and mechanical resistance.
The product is said to provide uniform colour, high bond strength and complete resistance to moisture, staining and cleaning agents compared with cement-based grouts. The formulation is designed for ease of application and clean off, along with consistent performance across a wide range of domestic, commercial and industrial environments, making it maintenance free.
Utilising technological advances in raw materials, the system is sold in a mixing bucket and contains over 50% recycled material comprising a resin, a hardener and a coloured eco filler. This is available in a choice of three colours – white, silver grey and platinum. COLOUR-GUARD PRO is designed for a wide range of bed depths from 2mm to 15mm and the overall kit has a weight of 2.1kg.
“We envisage COLOUR-GUARD PRO being popular with tilers because of its ease of use and its hygiene and maintenance-free benefits, which will particularly appeal to those who are working on wetrooms or other areas where moisture resistance is important,” says Steve Ball, Commercial Director. “Those who have a particular image of resin-based grouts being difficult and time-consuming to work with, will have a pleasant surprise when they try this new product, as it has all the benefits of a resin-based grout, but with none of the disadvantages. I would urge tilers to give it a try!”
COLOUR-GUARD PRO is the latest addition to Palace Chemicals’ grouts range, which includes a standard TILE GROUT, a WIDE-JOINT FLEXI-GROUT and the two lead products from the existing range – ANTI-MOULD GROUT, which contains a fungicide to prevent the growth of black spot mould, and COLOUR-LOCK GROUT, which comes in a range of 12 different colours and provides an efflorescence-free finish.
With its latest addition Palace Chemicals says it’s covering all bases when it comes to tilers’ grouting requirements.
