Solus has appointed Megan Mulkerrins as specification design manager, a role that combines design consultation and commercial support. Her degree in interior architecture and design means she speaks the same professional language as her clients, the company says, making communication efficient and easy.
Mulkerrins has a passion for all things interiors, whether it’s upcycling furniture in her spare time or helping architects and designers bring their vision to life in delivering large scale projects.
“I’ve always had a passion for architecture and design. I spent a lot of time hunting through antiques market in my teens looking for furniture to upcycle and repurpose,” Mulkerrins said. “I studied Interior Architecture at the University of Creative Arts making me a fellow alumnus of Tracey Emin, Karen Millen and Zandra Rhodes! It was an amazing experience to be amongst such creativity and it was there I realised I could have a career in design.”
Mulkerrins believes clients are becoming more conscious in their design decisions, making choices based on sourcing and manufacturing as opposed to straightforward aesthetics. She says the demand for transparency and honest information in the industry is growing, and that suppliers will be increasingly tasked with providing this information to enable more informed choices.
“I am always inspired by the creativity of the architects I get to collaborate with. Seeing their designs come to life and knowing we have played a part in supporting their vision is very rewarding. I’m also motivated to keep up to date with the latest design trends so I can provide the most innovative products to the A&D community.”
She concluded: “There are lots of things I am excited about at Solus. I’m really looking forward to seeing our re-imagined showroom space open in a few months and hosting more events! Last year’s series of Solus Sessions was amazing.”
