SACMI presents “next-gen advanced ceramic plant”

At this year’s Tecna exhibition in Rimini, Italy, Sacmi focused on digitalisation and sustainability, showcasing its vision of a “next-gen advanced ceramic plant”.

These two drivers of the company’s technological and plant engineering vision are said to be leading to practical proposals, even against a backdrop a “highly reactive” market that presents several challenges.

The first aspect of digitalisation – set to play a pivotal role at the Rimini Fair – is process control. From body preparation to forming, from decoration to firing, SACMI showcased solutions that focused on its “feedback on process” concept. This refers to the ability to make effective use of data to automatically correct any production drifts, minimise waste and maximise product.

The company also demonstrated its Continua+ technology for slab and tile forming, with recently added features targeting high productivity, versatility and quality. Advanced automation and controls have been added, which enable natural stone-like veining and coordinated item matching, helping to improve repeatability and lot management.

“Tecna 2022 is where we can get back to meeting customers face to face and discuss new, ever-more ambitious projects”, said the president of SACMI, Paolo Mongardi. “Our ceramic plants are designed to work systematically and synergistically by following a shared process-governing digital architecture. First and foremost, this means optimising flows to benefit the productivity of the entire plant”.

According to the company, the “full digital” approach also focuses on people and their capacity to play a pivotal role in the process. The machines are designed as part of an intelligent ecosystem that ensures results are repeatable and less dependent on incidental factors (e.g. human error, variability of raw materials and manufacturing conditions).
