Confidence with H40

Kerakoll’s H40, first launched in 1968, has evolved into one of the world’s best-selling tile adhesive ranges. Built on a heritage of innovation and continuously developed using advanced technology, the manufacturer says, it remains at the forefront of tile installation. The range is used by professionals worldwide to deliver consistent, reliable performance, and is said to be suitable for even the most challenging substrates and demanding environments.

To ensure this performance translates from theory to practice, Kerakoll’s R&D team has developed a series of proprietary tests, known as SAS Technology. These are specifically designed to replicate the real-world stresses experienced by tiled installations on-site, rather than relying solely on standard laboratory conditions. By simulating movement, load, and environmental factors, SAS Technology helps ensure that performance claims are validated under realistic working conditions.

The H40 range comprises four products, each designed to cover a broad spectrum of substrates, tile types and site conditions, giving installers a complete and versatile system. The range is formulated using Gel-Technology which is known for its high performance, unique workability and excellent durability on site.

H40 Gel
Leading the range is H40 Gel, a standard-setting gel adhesive designed to combine ease of application with high performance. According to the manufacturer, H40 Gel’s smooth consistency allows for “effortless” trowelling, giving installers a high level of control during application. Its flow characteristics are designed to promote full wetting of the tile back, eliminating voids and delivering a complete structural bond. A non-slump formulation helps the product support the weight of large format tiles, while the extended open time prevents premature drying, reducing thickening and surface skinning, and allows for more controlled installation, particularly on larger areas or more complex layouts.
High initial grab prevents vertical slip, even with extra-large slabs, while S1 deformability accommodates movement within the substrate, reducing the risk of cracking in applications where flexibility is required.

H40 Advanced
H40 Advanced builds on these core characteristics as a rapid-setting gel adhesive, combining extended workability with a fast set to improve on-site efficiency. This balance allows installers to maintain productivity without compromising application quality, Kerakoll says, making it particularly suitable for time-sensitive projects.

Formulated without Portland cement, H40 Advanced is non-hazardous to both installers and the environment. Its non-irritating composition supports safer handling on-site, contributing to improved working conditions while aligning with increasing demand for more sustainable construction materials.

H40 Ultimate
H40 Ultimate further develops the performance of the range as a rapid-setting gel adhesive with an S2 deformability rating. This higher level of deformability allows it to accommodate increased substrate movement, making it suitable for demanding or dynamic environments. By reducing stress transfer between substrate and tile, Kerakoll says, H40 Ultimate helps to minimise the risk of cracking and reduce the likelihood of costly call-backs.

H40 Extreme
The fourth product in the range is H40 Extreme, a hybrid gel adhesive engineered for the most demanding applications. It combines very high fluidity, with reportedly up to five times lower viscosity than traditional polyurethane adhesives, with “exceptional” flexibility, delivering significantly higher deformability than standard S2 adhesives, Kerakoll says. This combination of properties is designed to account for complex installation requirements where both flow and accommodation of movement are critical.

Designed for challenging site conditions, H40 Extreme is said to be particularly suited to difficult or uncommon substrates where conventional adhesives may struggle to perform reliably. This makes it an effective solution for projects that fall outside typical installation parameters, providing additional assurance where performance margins are critical.

Together, the four products within the H40 range are aimed to provide a comprehensive, high-performance solution for modern tiling requirements. Whether the priority is workability, speed, flexibility, or adaptability to challenging substrates, the range is designed offer a targeted solution without compromising overall performance.

The company concludes: “Built on a strong heritage of innovation, the H40 range continues to be trusted by professionals for its ease of use, technical reliability and consistent results on-site, delivering confidence across a wide range of applications.”
