Omnicol launches ready mixed adhesive for XXL-format tiles

Dutch tile adhesive manufacturer Omnicol has produced a ready-mixed water-resistant dispersion adhesive designed for use with thin extra-large, and extra extra-large format tiles called TP4 ALL.

Believed by the manufacturer to be a first of its kind, the ready-mixed product is designed for all tile types and suitable for interior wall and floor applications, including underfloor heating.
The ability to work like a powder and dry consistently under the tile, especially on XXL tiles, is said to be a unique feature which means application can be achieved in quicker time. With this product, there is no need to carry on site electric mixers, mixing buckets, find a water source, find electricity, and spend time mixing up powder.

Installers can save time and cost by using the adhesive straight out the bucket and onto the substrate, then put the lid on and use it again, meaning no waste of product or time.

The issue with dispersion is the curing. Traditional dispersion adhesives dry from the inside out, usually through the grout joints or substrate, meaning installing large format tiles is impossible with ready-mixed adhesives. This led to the reducing use and popularity of this type of adhesive.

Omnicol says it has found a “remarkable” formulation that dries from the middle out, like a powder. With a layer thickness achievable up to 15mm, the product is said to be extremely flexible with lasting elasticity, which enables it to withstand surface deformation.

It can be used for a range of absorbent applications, the manufacturer says, including stone surfaces, plaster surfaces, wooden boards and floor coverings (with wall and underfloor heating). It can also be used with fluid anhydrite screeds (calcium sulphate bonded), regardless of their age, with a residual moisture percentage of up to 0.5%, as well as cement screeds, regardless of their age, with a residual moisture percentage of 2.0%.

The product is also reportedly dust-free and holds the GEV EMICODE EC2 accreditation and EN 12004: D2 classification.
