With all the qualities of BAL Micromax2, the company’s new Micromax3 ECO grout delivers enhanced product performance, improved useability and added eco-benefits over its predecessor.
BAL Micromax3 ECO grout is designed to provide everything an installer needs to easily provide a perfect finish. The product is available in 36 colours, with a range of matching silicone sealants.
With longer-lasting and improved Microban antimicrobial protection providing non-hazardous protection against black mould and mildew, as well as an efflorescence-free formulation and locked-in colour consistency, Micromax3 ECO provides “the ultimate long-lasting finish for your tiling project,” BAL says.
The grout is OPC-free and sets in two to three hours for fast-track project completion. It’s now also suitable for swimming pools and can be used up to 30mm joint widths with no shrinking or cracking, BAL says.
“Despite the market-leading position of Micromax2, for the development of the new technology, further improvements were made to provide even greater control for fixers,” BAL says, “including easier clean-off, even on textured tiles and less haze after initial clean-off.”
Micromax3 ECO is said to be a lower dust formulation relative to conventional, OPC-based grouts – reducing waste and mess for the fixer, as well as being a safer product to use.
Easier to mix and apply – especially on walls with no slumping – BAL Micromax3 ECO also has improved colour consistency and is suitable for all tile types. According to the manufacturer, the development of rapid-hardening chemistry means the water is maintained within the grout, virtually eliminating the risk of water staining even on natural stone.
Sustainability without compromise
Produced in recyclable packaging, Micromax3 ECO is said to be manufactured with over 25% recycled materials with no loss of performance.
In addition to achieving EC1 Plus EMICODE designation (the best classification available under EMICODE’s system) the product is also non-hazardous, BAL says, while also providing excellent anti-microbial protection.
OPC-free for a reduced carbon footprint, BAL Micromax3 also has a two-year shelf life in 2.5kg and 5kg sizes (with all packaging 100% recyclable) and grouts can be part mixed for multiple use. This is designed to ensure less waste on-site for the fixer, while being better for the environment.

Epoxy solution – BAL Absolute Grout
BAL Absolute Grout is described as a “new-generation, three-part epoxy grout system – for ultimate waterproof protection in showers, wetrooms and bathrooms”.
With easy-mix and application, BAL says the product provides absolute protection in hygienic and wet areas and an “absolutely perfect” finish. The three-part technology ensures that colour is locked within the filler, providing long-lasting colour tones.
As a three-part system, the product is easier to mix and easier to apply with an epoxy grout float. Improved rheology reportedly ensures the grout holds well in the joints, particularly on walls.
BAL Absolute Grout cleans off with a good quality sponge – emulsifying pads usually not required (but can be used if preferred on heavily textured, anti-slip tiles).
Unlike old epoxy systems, the company says, it can be cleaned off 15 minutes after application, but it can still be cleaned off up to 60 minutes after application.
