Tesla is expanding its network of high-end car showrooms with a Sheffield-based centre. The 300sqm project reportedly demanded a stylish, yet durable, aesthetic that would match the luxury and futuristic reputation of Tesla cars.
The tiles, adhesive and grout needed to withstand the weight of the high-end cars and the constant trafficking of staff and visitors to the showroom.
The project was secured by The Great Northern Tiling Company and was completed in five days. To fix the 600x300mm porcelain tiles, the tiling team chose to use UltraTile ProFlex SP in grey – an adhesive the manufacturer says provides a cost-effective, rapid fix every time.
Suitable with various popular tile choices, ProFlex SP rapid set flexible tile adhesive can be applied to depths of 3-20mm, is classified as S1 in accordance with EN 12004 and has a high level of deformation for greater tolerance to movement.
With a pot life of 60 minutes and a set time of just 2.5 hours, the company says it’s unsurprising that ProFlex SP is a popular choice for tilers up and down the country.
Selecting the correct adhesive to install the porcelain tiles was paramount to success but the finishing was also crucial. With that in mind, The Great Northern Tiling Team used ProGrout Flexible in Grey to complete all the jointing.
Available in 14 tones to suit all designs and tastes, ProGrout Flexible is suitable alongside all tile types and can be washed down with minimal effort, the manufacturer says. Designed for areas where movement and vibration is likely, ProGrout Flexible is suitable for joint widths up to 20mm, is mould resistant, and will set in 12 hours.
Furthermore, the product is developed using ColourShield Technology – a process which involves the addition of a specialist additive for lasting colour protection.Finally, the tiling contractor also utilised UltraTile’s ProSuper Grip ready mixed adhesive to tile the staff showers and splashbacks.
Thanks to the fantastic performance of UltraTile and the talented team at The Great Northern Tiling Company, Tesla opened the doors to its Sheffield showroom, on time, in early 2023. g
