Palace Chemicals has ramped up its environmental programme with the introduction of more recycled materials to its range.
The UK-based independent manufacturer of tile adhesives, building chemicals, wood treatments and decorating sundries has introduced 30% recycled materials to all its small bags.
This introduction has been added to the film that makes the bags in on the ‘form, fill and seal’ lines on the in-house production of all small bag products.
Wayne Clapham, operations director at Palace Chemicals, said: “Creating eco-friendly packaging for this line is a complicated process as they must be able to be shaped in the correct way to help seal the bags properly to maintain product quality.
“Our R&D team looked at various alternative bags, but they were not up to standard to keep the product intact and avoid spillages.
“It’s taken us many months to achieve, but we’ve now managed to find a film that will give us what we need to not only ensure the packaging of our product remains at top quality, but it’s also great for our ongoing company-wide environmental initiative”.
The bags are one result of the company’s ongoing “objectives for improvement programme”, which has operated as a BSI accredited ISO 14001 approved environmental management system since 2004.
Other advances include emissions reductions onsite, moving to 100% recycled plastic for its bottles & tubs and a push to replace energy-intensive raw materials within its building and construction products with by-products from other industrial processes.
