Italian tile producer Florim has announced its photovoltaic system is now operational on the roof of its Mordano Plant 2. The photosensitive surface area of 22000sq m, with a nominal power of 4.5MWp, will reportedly help avoid the emission of 1400 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually.
The investment has been made in addition to many energy efficiency measures introduced over past several years, the company says, consistent with a “sustainability policy geared toward minimising the company’s impact on the environment and the local area”.
When added to the two installations already existing in Fiorano Modenese, the system brings the total installed capacity to 12.2 MWp, amounting to 64,000sq m of panels. This is described as another important step in the company’s drive to reduce CO2 emissions and is in keeping with the amendment to the company’s bylaws that spells out its commitment to climate neutrality.
In 2020, Florim achieved B Corp status, which it says made it “the first porcelain stoneware manufacturer in the world” to gain the designation, and earlier this year the company partnered with Solus Ceramics on a sustainabilty partnership with Solus Ceramics.
