Amber predicts rising demand for electric heating amid concerns over gas

Amber Underfloor Heating has forecasted a particularly busy autumn for electric underfloor heating solutions, as consumers tackle challenges associated with gas boilers.

Gas heating has come under fire this year after growing concerns with its cost, sustainability and longevity. Consequently, Amber Underfloor Heating says it is expecting an increased interest in electric underfloor heating systems.

“The colder seasons are always busy for us, but we believe recent challenges surrounding gas heating will have a significant impact on the interest in electric underfloor heating this year” says Steven Rooney, director of Amber Underfloor Heating.

One of the biggest challenges for the gas heating industry is soaring costs. The wholesale price of gas has doubled since the start of the year while electricity prices have risen by around a third in comparison, making it an appealing choice for budget-conscious consumers.

Additionally, with experts seeking to break the link between gas and electricity prices – and renewables now generating around 40% of the UK’s electricity demand instead of gas, the company says – electricity prices could be set to fall.

“Electric underfloor heating is already more cost effective than gas heating, so when we consider the positive outlook for electricity costs too, it’s evident that consumers will be looking to switch. This will certainly boost the electric heating industry” adds Rooney.

A further concern with gas heating is its incompatibility with Net Zero targets. Conventional gas boilers are likely to become unsuitable in the near future as new homes are already required by law to produce fewer carbon emissions – a feat which cannot be achieved with traditional gas boilers.

The UK government has announced that electric heating is a key solution to meeting Net Zero targets, making electric underfloor heating a desirable alternative to gas.

“We’ve already experienced rising demand in response to the government’s pro-electric stance – and it’s clear this is only going to grow” says Rooney.

Amber Underfloor Heating supplies the trade with a range of electric underfloor heating systems. The company also supplies DEVI products in the UK and Ireland.
