Tile manufacturers embrace indoor-outdoor hybrid designs post-pandemic

Since the pandemic, tile manufacturers have capitalised heavily on consumers’ desire to make more use of their outdoor space, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the plethora of indoor-to-outdoor hybrid product ranges that have launched over the past several years.

Florim, for example, has its Artifact range, described by the company as “rustic value revamped for a contemporary vibe.”

The collection is available in thicknesses of both 9 and 20mm, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, while its finish options explore a number of neutral tones from Aged White to Worked Charcoal.

According to the manufacturer: “Its aesthetic impact, worn and imperfect, expresses a strong naturalness that allows it to harmonise with the wide chromatic range, consisting of neutral colours and enhanced by shading effects that range from cooler to warmer tones.”

Atlas Concorde offers a wide variety of tiling ranges suitable for exterior installations, including the Boost family of ceramic slabs. This set of concrete and stone-effect tiles, which encompasses various ranges such as Boost Color, Boost Balance and Boost Pro, is available in thicknesses of 6, 9 and 20mm, allowing it to be used for continuous design schemes from interiors to exterior areas.

Recently, the company launched Boost Icor, which it describes as “a project inspired by the warmth and modernity of Limestone stones. Captivating textures and new 3D coverings make the most of the materiality and high relief typical of processed stones. The collection’s strong outdoor vocation allows it to transcend spatial barriers, bringing together indoor and outdoor spaces.”

To mark this new collection, the company has collaborated with Italian architecture studio Archea Associati on six indoor-outdoor spaces, which it says place “the diverse applications and compositional possibilities of Boost Icor at the heart of their creative process.”
According to the manufacturer, each detail of the tiles is designed to allow them to intergrate seamlessly into modern architectural settings, complemented by an extensive range of decorative elements.

For Panaria Ceramica, there are several options within the company’s range that are suitable for outdoor applications, such as Borealis, a wood-effect surface inspired by oak timber. The range is designed to imitate oak’s “intense tactile naturalness and harmoniousness,” and is available in four shades. Like most ranges within the category, it’s offered in interior-suitable thicknesses (9 and 10.5mm) as well as in a thicker variant of 20mm for outdoors. As a wood-effect range, Borealis is available in plank and chevron formats in addition to the standard square shapes.

The company also offers the Frame range, which is described by the manufacturer as featuring “haloing, calibrated streaks, and dynamic shading,” creating a material with a “profound and varied aesthetic and with great expressive strength”. The stone-effect range is available in two thicknesses, 9 and 20mm, as well as five finishes: Glen, River, Peak, Groove and Gorge.

ABK offers the OUT.20 collection, which is designed to “transfer the material sensations” of the company’s main tile ranges to exterior spaces. According to the company: “The collection combines the high technical performance of extra-thick products with a sophisticated aesthetic inspired by the modernity of concrete, the timeless appeal of stone and the natural warmth of wood.”

Accordingly, the OUT.20 collection features thicker and more slip-resistant versions of the designs from the company’s stone-effect Monolith range, its wood-effect Eco Chic range as well as its Blend Concrete collection, among others.
