Mapei adhesives specified at Manchester’s canal-side Potato Wharf

An extensive ceramics installation, featuring Mapei adhesives, has been completed at Manchester’s Potato Wharf. A Lendlease development, the canal-side apartment complex is located in the city’s Castlefield district.

Mapei products were used throughout the bathrooms to install more than 3,000 sqm of ceramic and porcelain tiles. The wall and floor tiling, on the final phase of two high end apartment blocks, was completed by tiling specialist – GF Holding Tiling ltd.

Potato Wharf’s design is said to complement its location and heritage, providing ‘elegant space with an urban edge’. Lendlease’s third and final phase includes 191 one and two bedroom apartments which were completed in 2021.

Throughout the bathrooms, tiled surfaces were installed using Mapei Ultralite D2 and Keraflex Maxi S1 white adhesives. Ultralite D2 is a ready-to-use white adhesive with a lightweight, high yield and water-resistant formulation, the company says, while it describes Keraflex Maxi S1 adhesive as a low VOC deformable cementitious adhesive with no vertical slip and an extended open time. These features reportedly enabled tiles to be fixed to painted surfaces within shower cubicles. Tiles were then grouted with the company’s Ultracolor Plus – an anti-efflorescence, quick-setting and drying polymer-modified grout, featuring water-repellent DropEffect and mould-resistant BioBlock.
