KERAKOLL UK is pleased to announce that several of its UK manufactured products have recently obtained verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This builds on the body of EPDs already available for the products manufactured in Italy. This is the first phase of an ongoing process of product certification, and more products will be announced shortly, says the company.

What is an EPD?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that quantifies the environmental impact of a product and has been verified by an approved third party, according to the international standards ISO 14025 and EN 15804. EPDs can be cradle-to-gate, which documents the impact from extraction of raw materials to the factory gate, or cradle-to-grave, i.e. across the product’s entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life.
Kerakoll EPDs are cradle-to-grave, something that is achieved by only about 10% of the EPDs in the market, says the company.
Why EPDs matter
EPDs allow specifiers, architects, engineers, and developers to objectively compare the sustainability performance of building materials, by providing clear, factual data about carbon emissions, resource use, and other environmental metrics. They align with major global sustainability assessment frameworks including LEED, BREEAM, WELL, and Level(s), allowing architects who are using those frameworks to easily prove the impact of the products.
