Call for entries: Tile of Spain Awards 2022

Entries have opened for the Tile of Spain Awards 2022. Architects, designers and final-year students are invited to submit projects for this annual global competition, promoting the creative use of Spanish ceramics.

The awards are organised by the Spanish Ceramics Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) with the aim of encouraging and rewarding the use of Spanish-made ceramics in international projects.

Cash prizes totalling €35,000 will be divided between three categories, which recognise innovation in architecture, interior design and a final degree project by an architecture student.

This year, the winners of the two main prizes – architecture and interior design – will each receive €15,000, while the winner of the final degree project will receive €5000. The awards are sponsored by Endesa, PortValencia, PwC España, and are also supported by the Valencia Regional Ministry of Finance.

British architect Eric Parry will chair this year’s competition. He will be joined on the judging panel by architects Luis Rojo (from Rojo/Fernández-Shaw), Biba Dow (Dow Jones Architecs), José Juan Barba (director of Metalocus) and Ángel Pitarch (chairman of CTAC) as well as interior designer Agnès Blanch (from Estudi Vilablanch).

The jury will meet in November in Castellón and will consider entries from all over the world.

At last year’s awards, the prize for the architecture category was taken by MRM Architects’ Studio for the headquarters of the Valencia Construction Sector Employment Foundation (FLCCV). First prize in the interior design category went to “Living in A Coderch” by Estudio Vilablanch. The Final Degree project was won by Gonzalo López Elorriaga from the Madrid School of Architecture. The proposal was for a leisure and entertainment resort designed to revive a rural setting.

Entry to the awards is free and submissions are being accepted from now until 28 October 2022. Projects must have been completed between January 2021 and October 2022.
