Updated product ranges from Kerakoll

Kerakoll’s slimmed down range of adhesives and grouts may seem small compared to many of its competitors, the company says, but the simplification is a result of the R&D team going back to the drawing board to reinvent the way its adhesives and grout are formulated. This has allowed the team to develop adhesives and grouts that perform on all substrates, with all tile types and situations, making it easier to specify the correct products.

The H40 range of gel-adhesives – successor to the company’s Biogel range – has only 3 products, which can be used in residential or heavy-duty commercial settings, internally or externally in areas subject to significant temperature changes and in constant exposure to water.

The first of these products is H40 Gel, a standard-setting powder form gel-adhesive designed to be easy to work with, as it is soft and easy to trowel but still supports the weight of large tiles, while maintaining its shape, and stopping vertical slip on walls.

The second product is H40 Advanced, a rapid-setting powder form gel-adhesive with the same qualities as H40 Gel but long working times and rapid setting. It’s non-hazardous to the environment and human health, the company says, as its formulation does not include Portland cement and is non-irritating to the skin.

The Shock White versions of both H40 Gel and H40 Advanced are said to be extremely white in colour. This comes from a combination of cements and natural pure white materials which also contribute to the flow properties of the products while increasing coverage and workability. It makes the adhesives suitable for working with light coloured grouts and all types of natural stone and marble.

The way the mix flows means it fully wets the back of the tile, filling voids and ensuring a full structural bond, while the fact it doesn’t dry out means it doesn’t thicken or allow a film to form.
The range contains additives to increase flexibility, meaning the adhesives can be used with deformable substrates such as wood and metal. The unbroken structural bond which they form with the substrate and tile absorbs and evens out the stresses caused by movement of the substrate.

The third and final product is H40 Extreme, a hybrid gel-adhesive which combines fluidity – its five times less viscous than a traditional polyurethane adhesive – with extreme flexibility, as it is ten times more deformable than generic S2 adhesives. It can reportedly cope with extreme on-site conditions making it suitable for sites with uncommon or difficult substrates.

The company’s R&D team has developed its own stringent tests called SAS technology, designed to ensure H40 gel-adhesives can withstand the stresses suffered by a tiling installation in the real world and not just in laboratory conditions. All three H40 gel-adhesives have passed these tests, owing to the strength of the adhesive bond.

To finish the installation, Kerakoll offers Fugabella Color, a resin-cement hybrid grout range available in 50 different shades selected by Piero Lissoni for contemporary interiors.

The resin-cement formulation reportedly offers performance levels very close to epoxy-resin grouts, and can be used both internally and externally in domestic, industrial and commercial projects, meaning installers can use the same grout for everything rather than having to choose one that fits the on-site conditions.

The mix is said to be easy to work with and remains workable without changing consistency. Additionally, the colours do not fade as they are not subject to salt and lime efflorescence.
The range is formulated to have less environmental and health impact than traditional cement or epoxy-resin grouts, and a very low VOC content.

Finally, the company says its Fugalite Bio range offers a water-based resin grout that is both hypo-allergenic and better for the environment than traditional epoxy-resin grouts. The grout can be used internally and externally even in the most demanding situations.

The team is more than happy to advise on Kerakoll products at the specification stage, as well as offering technical support both on and off site.
