Dedicated to training the #FITAWay

FITA is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, providing specialist training for the floorcovering industry. The organisation operates two specialist training centres at Loughborough and Kirkcaldy, fully equipped to deliver over 20 different courses in soft flooring.

Among the courses regularly delivered is luxury vinyl tile (LVT) training, with some of the training designed for newcomers to fitting and other training specifically aimed at contractors who may be experienced but require additional expertise in the skills required for working with LVT. This is becoming particularly important, the organisation says, considering the product’s rise in popularity over recent years.

These training courses are said to be especially valuable for those who have recently begun fitting vinyl tiles as well as those wanting to adopt best practice. It’s designed to help fitters gain the appropriate knowledge and skills to be able to work efficiently, expanding their skill sets and profitability on jobs. LVT installation requires proper preparation before fitting to ensure a correct product and a long-lasting floor and is also covered in LVT training at FITA

The organisation delivers a three-day basic course aimed at both domestic and commercial installations. The course teaches fitters to look at the subfloor, see what might affect the product, make sure they use the correct type of flooring, learning the fundamentals – how to correctly prep and install LVT flooring to the highest standard.

The 2-day intermediate course deals with more complicated fits; different styles such as 45 degree and covers the incorporation of borders and features.

Training is proven to result in a higher level of success and a lower level of failure or problems. Training deals with more than simply the installation of flooring. It helps candidates to understand how the product works, its capabilities and limitations. And, equally important, it also covers preparation.

The organisation’s instructors have extensive knowledge of the industry. They teach the skills needed to increase knowledge and abilities. Every course teaches British Standards and current industry best practices, FITA says, utilising the latest products, tools, and techniques.

“We believe our method of teaching gives the best opportunity to learn new skills, develop existing ones, improve your confidence, gain a competitive edge, and invest in a fitter’s future,” the organisation says.
