Tile backerboards are utilised in projects as they provide a strong, moisture-resistant surface, helping to prevent rot, cracks, and even project failure. Below, manufacturers showcase their products and the benefits they offer to support successful installations.
Marmox expands its Multiboard range with new wetroom systems and tile-ready features.
AS demand grows for reliable, lightweight, and thermally efficient tile-backer solutions, foam-cored construction boards continue to play an essential role across the tiling sector. For many contractors, Marmox Multiboard has long been a dependable option – providing waterproofing, rigidity, thermal performance, and versatility across walls, floors, and custom bathroom features, says the company. This winter, Marmox says it has expanded the Multiboard range with several new products and updates designed to give installers more choice and greater flexibility on-site.
December 2025 marked the launch of multiple additions: a redesigned Showerlay range with a new, easy-to-clean drain system, updated sizes and outlet positions, and the addition of a new fleece; a full lineup of tileable wall-hanging wash basins; and two newly sized Marmox Niches, says the company. These developments are said to follow extensive testing and installer feedback, with the aim of supplying practical solutions built on Multiboard’s proven performance.
A new era for Marmox Showerlays
Wetroom floors continue to be one of the most common applications for tile-backer boards, and Showerlay has earned a place as a trusted pre-sloped, waterproof base ready for tiling, says Marmox. The updated range is said to have introduced a series of improvements shaped by professional input and the evolving requirements of modern wetroom design.
Says Marmox: ‘The most noticeable update is the new drain system, designed for a secure connection to the tray, straightforward maintenance access, and reliable flow performance – particularly important in larger walk-in showers or multi-head installations. The new fleece layer contributes further waterproofing security, especially around the junctions where the tray meets walls or surrounding substrates.
‘The remodelled Showerlay range also introduces new tray sizes and relocated outlet positions across selected offset and linear versions. These changes help installers align the waste more easily with existing plumbing without needing to modify joists or adjust pipework. In addition, all Showerlays can now be trimmed by up to 100mm from any side, allowing on-site cutting to achieve an exact fit while maintaining the integrity of the fall. Together, these updates provide added freedom when planning walk-in and barrier-free showers.’
Tileable wash basins – A natural extension of Multiboard
Another major addition this season is the new collection of tileable wash basins, produced from the same waterproof, rigid XPS-cored structure as Multiboard and reinforced with stainless-steel support bars that slot into the rear during installation, says the company. As the popularity of tiled furniture, custom vanities, and fully integrated bathroom features grows, installers are increasingly looking for fittings that can be tiled directly without extra fabrication work.
Says Marmox: ‘The new Marmox basins arrive ready for tiling on all surfaces, providing a stable, uniform substrate that removes the need for additional tanking. The launch range includes four styles:
1. Linear Drain Basin – with a channel-style outlet suited to contemporary bathrooms and large-format tiles.
2. Push Plug Basin – compatible with standard basin waste fittings and ideal for residential projects.
3. Infinity Basin – created to support continuous tile lines for a seamless appearance.
4. Shelf Basin – a versatile addition that works beneath any of the basin styles for towel storage or as an extension piece.
These basins allow tilers to match surfaces across the room, producing unified finishes that continue to gain popularity in domestic and commercial settings.’
New Marmox niches for storage-focused designs
Recessed niches have become a common feature in modern bathrooms, offering functional storage without the need for wall-mounted accessories. Says Marmox: ‘Responding to this trend, Marmox has expanded its niche range with two larger sizes:
– 600 × 300 mm
– 1200 × 400 mm
Both versions are fully waterproof, rigid, and ready for tiling. The larger format provides ample space for multi-item storage or decorative display – ideal for feature recesses in walk-in showers or for use alongside baths. These additions sit alongside the existing Marmox niche range, giving installers more freedom to adapt storage to suit the proportions of the room.’
Built on the foundation of Multiboard
A unifying theme across all these releases is that they’re made entirely from Multiboard or built around its core structure, says Marmox.
‘This ensures the familiar benefits installers already rely on: waterproofness from the XPS core, rigidity suitable for tiled surfaces, thermal performance, and strong adhesion thanks to the cementitious coating. By basing new wetroom components, basins, and niches on Multiboard, Marmox provides a system where all products work together seamlessly on-site, helping installers maintain consistency in fixing, handling, and finishing,’ adds the company.
A practical approach to product development
These launches are described by the company to arrive at a point where the tiling market is calling for adaptable, reliable, and time-efficient solutions. Homeowners increasingly look for bespoke bathrooms; designers expect integrated detailing; and installers value products that are straightforward to work with while delivering long-term performance.
The company concludes: ‘Marmox’s latest additions — updated Showerlays, tileable wash basins, and expanded niches — respond directly to these needs and further strengthen the Multiboard range as a complete system for wetrooms, bathrooms, and interior tiling projects.’
