Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers installs first Lady Master

October 2018

The Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers has installed its first Lady Master, Lesley Day: the first in its 600+ year history.

Lesley Day spent over 26 years in the world of trade associations involving wall and floor tiles, eventually becoming the Executive Officer of The Tile Association.  In 2006 she was installed as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers.  In the Livery she has served as Chairman of the Website Committee; Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Company’s Charitable Trusts, a Court Assistant, and was the first lady Warden.

In her Installation speech Lesley said she was very honoured and privileged not only to be the first lady Master but also the first for many years to come from the wall and floor tile industry.  She added: “Encouraging new entrants into our three crafts (of bricklaying, roofing and tiling) is vitally important in the current climate.”   She pledged to promote the crafts wherever possible.

Giving back to others has formed an important part of her life with Lesley being a member of Lions Club International for nearly 30 years, serving as Multiple District (National) Lioness Chairman before joining Caterham Oxted & Godstone Lions Club.

Lesley is married to Malcolm and lives in Chaldon.  In her spare time, Lesley is a member of Caterham U3A, enjoys gardening, travel, and spending time with her family.
