The USA-based Waterworks distils 40 years of bathroom expertise into complete design solutions. Recently Waterworks has partnered with Shinola to create an exclusive assortment of custom bathroom fittings, wall-mounted accessories, and ceramic tiles. Shinola, the Detroit-based luxury goods company, opened its first hotel in January 2019; featuring custom-made products from Waterworks in their designer bathrooms.
“Waterworks has built a pretty extraordinary track record of creating customized products for many of the hospitality industry's most exciting and sophisticated properties around the world,” explains Peter Sallick, CEO and Creative Director.
“This venture with Shinola marks the first time a Waterworks custom hotel design has been added to our product offering as a limited, special edition.”
“We worked closely with the Waterworks team to incorporate subtle Shinola details into the product,” notes Daniel Caudill, Creative Director at Shinola. “We looked to our classic Runwell watch design and used the caseback and details as inspiration: specifically, the badge shape and the tiny screws on the backside of the case, which you can see on the round escutcheon.”
“The collection embodies the Shinola look, while delivering the world-class craftsmanship as promised by Waterworks. This particular collaboration is exciting for us in that consumers can really make a piece of the Shinola Hotel a part of their home design.”
When it came to the ceramic tile element, Waterworks created four custom shades of its hand-made Cottage ceramic tile: Matte White, Shinola Blue, Shinola Brown, and Shinola Green. Each hotel bathroom received a special colour treatment to complement its overall design scheme. The tiles were installed vertically from floor to ceiling, with their grout lines precisely aligned. Waterworks’ Cottage field tiles come in a 1 3/4 by 7 3/8in format, approximately 50 by 200mm.
