Surface Design Trends 2021 opens on 11th February

February 2021

The Surface Design Trends featuring the Surface Design Awards, sponsored by Armourcoat, will stream live on Thursday 11th February 2021 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

This event aims to highlight the very best in surface design projects from around the world as well as refresh your knowledge with the latest trends from our presentation programme of speakers.

Hosting the event on Thursday 11 February is Aidan Walker: one of the UK’s most respected design editors and critics.

"I’m delighted to be back hosting the Awards again this year...there are some very exciting and innovative projects in the competition. It will be an interesting Q+A session with the judges,” said Walker.

Opening the afternoon (at 2:00pm) will be material and trend expert Sally Angharad Booth bringing you Close to Home – materials for a positive and sustainable future.

Searching out the latest innovations and identifying new design directions, Angharad Booth works with brands and businesses providing research through trend reports, presentations and editorial content.

“Materials are developing at such a speed, turning challenges into opportunities, and I can’t wait to share some of the latest innovations with the audience,” said Angharad Booth.

Next up will be an insightful look into the future: Hannah Malein, Creative Director of Colour Hive and Head of Trends for MIX Magazine.  She will present Colour, material and finish forecast: Spring Summer 2022.

Malein has worked in colour material and surface innovation, developing reliable forecasts for global and regional markets across multiple design industries including product, solid surface, paint and coatings, textiles and consumer electronics.

“For our Spring / Summer 2022 forecast we will outline some of the complex and often contradictory responses to Covid-19; from craving nature in lockdown to isolation-driven collectivism, the role of experts in a health focused era and the true meaning of luxury,” explains Malein
