Portobello invests in a digital future

At Ceramica Portobello the latest two Durst Gamma digital printers are now up and running; bringing to 15 the number of Gamma range printing systems in operation at the facility of Brazil’s largest ceramic tile manufacturer.

The partnership between Portobello and Durst began in 2011 and has strengthened steadily over the years.  One of the two news printers is a Gamma 108 XD 4.0 printer equipped with Durst DM (Digital Material) printhead technology.  It will be capable of performing extremely high quality effect printing ,as well as depositing large quantities of material-effect ink (more than 100 g/m2).  The other is a Gamma 148 XD for decoration of tiles in 900 by 900, 1,000 by 1,000 and 1,200 by 1,200mm formats.

The new systems deliver banding-free results and colour stability and will be used both for premium collections and for Pointer brand tiles for the mass market.  In 2016, Portobello achieved sales of approximately €379 million and an output of over 42 million sq. metre of tiles.
