Must-see installations at Clerkenwell Design Week

April 2018
Clerkenwell Design Week has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations.  From 22nd to 24th May, CDW will be celebrating its 9th year and is now firmly established as the UK’s leading independent design festival.  In 2017, the event attracted 34,128 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands.  In 2018, among the host of products and events, the CDW Presents programme offers cool collaborations and exciting installations.
Hakwood will be back for a third year, collaborating with Shape London for a refreshing twist: Behind Closed Doors in a miniature street-scape at Spa Fields.
Several architecture practices, including TDO architecture, are collaborating with Bakers Patterns to produce sustainable way-finding sculptures in polystyrene around EC1. Each sculpture draws on Clerkenwell's rich history of stories.
Kinetech Design's collaboration with Amari Interiors, Timberfusion and Applelec draws inspiration from
Shakespeare’s famous works and the history of the arch in a kiri-origami structure that forms an Elizabethan ruff.
For the third consecutive year, Scale Rule will be giving St. James’ Churchyard a new focal point by realising a pavilion design conceived by GCSE students from across London. This year’s winning concept responded to the theme of sustainability aiming to inspire a younger generation to keep social and environmental impacts at the forefront of design.
Bike rack, bench or both?  Lou Corio Randall's Pipe Line project is formed from a single continuous curved line of steel which appears to exit the ground and twist into abstract shapes.
Every year over 20 partners take part in CDW's wider programme of events contributing to a rich timetable of activity. This year contributors range from architecture giants BDP through to visual effects experts Territory Studio, print designers MOO to workspace innovators FORA.
One to watch out for is Jestico and Whiles collaboration with Porcelanosa.  Jestico + Whiles is a design-led international studio of architects and interior designers based in London and Prague.  The Porcelanosa Group is, of course, more than just a prestigious ceramic tile manufacturer and offers a vast portfolio that spans kitchens and bathroom products through to advanced building solutions for contemporary architecture.
On Wednesday 23rd May, from 6:30pm-8:30pm, Jestico + Whiles and Porcelanosa will be in conversation with friends on trends in hospitality design, featuring an interactive installation created  using Porcelanosa’s next generation material, Krion.  The event will include a drinks reception with nibbles and beverages at Sutton Yard, 65 Goswell Road.
