Wincanton is expanding its construction fleet as a result of the organisation’s continued growth within the sector. The expansion will see the bulk powder haulage operation receive additional powder tankers, which will service existing customers as well as provide capacity needed for increasing demand. The investment consists of 26 specialist Feldbinder tankers with Mercedes units, 22 of which have a 36 cubic metre capacity for bulk cement, or bulk sand.
Wincanton has just signed a new contract with the UK’s largest supplier of ready-mixed concrete, Hanson. The eight-year deal makes Wincanton the first 3PL provider to enter the ready-mixed concrete market.
Wincanton has also signed a new three-year contract with Wickes to undertake home delivery of big and bulky items requiring specialist vehicles. Wickes, part of the Travis Perkins Group, had previously operated an in-house solution for the home delivery of big and bulky items. Now Wincanton has assumed responsibility for the majority of this operation across the country. Wincanton will be implementing new technology to support Wickes multichannel strategy, commencing with the Flexipod in-cab solution to enhance customer experience and improve efficiency.
