Summer of sales growth for builders’ merchants

November 2017

Builders’ merchants’ sales growth continued through summer 2017, with year-on-year sales up 5.8% in August.

Overall, the summer months (June, July and August) were 5.5% ahead of the same period in 2016.

BMBI data is released monthly and is a unique data source available for builders’ merchant sector sales to builders.  It is billed as the most reliable indicator of RMI housing.

The Builders Merchants Building Index (BMBI) tracks builders’ merchants’ actual sales to builders and contractors using GfK’s Builders’ Merchant Point of Sale Tracking Data.

The BMBI represents over 80% of the value of the builders’ merchants’ market.   During this period, Ironmongery (+10.9%) and Kitchens & Bathrooms (+10.7%) were the  best performing categories.
