RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) has commended Instarmac’s Health & Safety processes and their continual improvement for the second year running.
In 2013 the experienced panel of judges measured Instarmac’s impressive performance indicators and highlighted their ‘excellent health and safety management’. Their new Gold Award has been based on an ethos of continual improvement with the addition of a Health & Safety Committee and a significant investment in new racking systems to improve safety.
Managing Director, John Holcroft, has endorsed the implementation of a Health & Safety Committee in the business, which includes volunteers from various departments. This group meets regularly to ensure the necessary time, funding and resources are channeled into handling and preventing any safety issues.
A current and ongoing near miss action programme in the business had proactively identified that a lack of space in the production and warehousing area could potentially lead to accidents. This contributed towards supporting the significant investment in the new VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) racking system.
This modern storage method allows for over 2000 tonnes of stock to be kept in a relatively smaller area, increasing productivity, and most importantly rocketing storage space by 50%.
Many smaller but equally significant measures undertaken include the use of external audit companies to aide achieving compliance with HSE guidance and regulations, examples being, noise monitoring, LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment) and WEL (Work Exposure Limits).
This award represents another significant achievement by a nationally recognised independent body for this truly British manufacturing success story.
Instarmac Group plc is home to the Ultracrete, Ultrascape, Ultra Tile, Ultra Floor, Wondertex and i-fix brands.
