Marble-effect porcelain offers a practical alternative to authentic stone but its benefits are often undermined by incorrect maintenance. Mechanically polished tiles, in particular, offer challenges as the polishing process opens pores throughout the surface of the tile. Unlike matt porcelain, these surfaces need to be protected and if they don’t receive an in-line treatment, one should be applied before installation or prior to grouting.
LTP’s Polished Porcelain Sealer (MPG) is designed for mechanically polished surfaces, including floor and wall tiles, counter tops and fireplaces. The impregnating treatment protects surfaces from water, oil, dirt and grease, without altering appearance. It is applied to a clean, dry surface and buffed after twenty minutes. A second coat is recommended for more porous tiles and the treatment can also be used on granite.
For general maintenance, the range includes LTP Porcelain Floor Tile Cleaner and LTP Stonewash for walls, whilst LTP Grimex can be used to deep clean and restore surfaces. Grimex can also be used to remove layers of poorly applied sealer, so that the tiles can be re-sealed.
Support tools include LTP’s Product Selector - found at ltp-productguide.co.uk – which identifies the correct treatment according to surface type and symptom - and its comprehensive ‘how to’ video library at https://www.youtube.com/user/ltponlinetv
