Hoffman Tiling & Bathrooms Ltd switches back to the Palace brand

December 2020

Materials from Palace Chemicals and Laticrete have helped Lion Tiles deliver inside-out style to a open-plan upgrade in Leeds.

At the start of the Pandemic, tiling businesses were not entirely sure if they were able to open or close, so there were a few weeks of uncertainty ... which also gave an opportunity for reflection.

It was in this period that Hoffman Tiling made the decision to switch their supply of ‘sticky’……Not an easy task at the best of times when you employ a few fixers that ‘like what they like’.

But that said, the management team at Hoffman decided to make the change and this would have to be all or nothing; this was the reigniting of an old relationship with Palace Chemicals Ltd.

Hoffman Tiling & Bathrooms Ltd, a thriving firm based in New Romney, Kent, has taken the Palace brand on a host of projects in recent months, having switched from a rival product.

Despite the pitfalls of Covid19, Hoffman management say 2020 has probably been their busiest year - with help from Palace’s top-quality goods.

The company, which has over 10 years of experience, had used Palace in its early days, before switching. But Hoffman returned to Palace after becoming aware of its expanded range of products as well as some great feedback from fellow tilers around the country.

Explaining why he chose Palace, company director Sam Hoffman said: “The quality is better than other companies. The customer service is really good and the prices are very competitive.

“I deal a lot with Steve Ball, Palace’s Commercial Director, who is quite local to me and he is always very helpful with product or technical queries.  Having made this change, there is no looking back. We are really pleased with the range and wouldn’t use anything else again. It is encouraging to know that Palace Chemicals continues to develop new formulations and technologies like the recently improved formula of the COLOUR-LOCK grout which is fantastic to mix and use.”

Sam added: “It is by far the most flexible-feeling grout we have used, with so many brands of grout having inconsistent colour shade and the common problem of efflorescence, it is great to find a grout that is not just rapid-setting and smooth-finish, but also efflorescence-free and easy to wash over.

"As a company we have now found a more competitively priced manufacturer in Palace Chemicals, yet the products have a wider range and cover all the highest specifications and performance levels to exceed competitors. Our team is also safe in the knowledge that the technical team are on hand to assist us.  We are currently working on a £30m mansion renovation and Palace Chemicals products were the chosen brand at the thick of it all."

Seven members of Hoffman staff have been renovating the kitchens, bathrooms and living areas of a Tudor-style mansion since July and with the amount of renovation work, the project still has over 24 months of ongoing work.

The home, which belongs to a former property developer and is set in 16 acres of land in an undisclosed location, features no fewer than a dozen bathrooms, six living areas and three kitchens. The hallway of the listed manor house is as big as Sam's two-bed detached house!

“If we are working there, we can’t just walk from one end of the house to the other, we have to ring each other!” added Sam, whose company has 10 staff. “It’s probably one of the biggest things we have done to date.”

Another prestigious scheme coming up for Hoffman Tiling & Bathrooms Ltd is the conversion of the Royal Victoria Hospital, in Folkestone, Kent.

The neglected hospital, which is more than 100 years old, is being converted into 19 luxury apartments by developer Alliance Building, with 19 further flats being built in the hospital grounds.

Hoffman was due to start work as tiling subcontractor on the scheme in early November.

Other products of choice used by Hoffman include Palace’s FAST-FLEX LEVELLER. Sam said: “It has a really good flow rate and levelling properties, is quick-drying so we can walk on it after a maximum of three hours and actually start laying tiles in four hours, which gives us much more efficiency and reduces timescales on commercial and domestic projects.”

Another Palace favourite of Hoffman is EASI-FLEX WALL & FLOOR ADHESIVE.

“It sets quick enough, but you still have time to work,” said Sam. “It has good pot life and high initial grab.”

Sam has also said that he is working through various other products as the projects permit, having just used the EASI-SET product, which is a fantastic Semi-Setting product that has just recently been added to the range.
